If you are interested in “The Protocol” this offers a brief introduction and link to the document.  A group of 16 clergy and laity from around the world, representing diverse United Methodist advocacy groups, have proposed plan entitled the Protocol of Reconciliation & Grace Through Separation, (follow the link to read the full document). The plan would allow annual conferences and local congregations to leave the UMC and retain their buildings and assets.  It would require any entity leaving to pay all outstanding obligations to the denomination.  “The Protocol” was not written by an official agency of the UMC and will not have any authority unless and until it is approved by the General Conference. General Conference was scheduled to meet May 5-15 but has been postponed indefinitely due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
